IFJ workshop at Bhubaneshwar

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ)had a two days work shop on Media right violation in conflict area and advocacy on 12th and 13th May 2012 at Bhubaneswar.The Workshop which was organised with collaboration of National Union of Journalists expressed deep concern as the journalists working in mao affected area of Odisha are facing serious security problem. More than 40 journalists participated in the programme and narrated their deplorable condition . most of them complained that they face threat not only from Maoist side but also from police and security personnel. False cases are being registered against the scribes who expose the on holy alliance between police and mafias. Ifj south Asia Project Coordinator Sh. Sukumar Muralidharan conducted the work shop and outlined various guide lines for the journalists working in conflict zone. Coordinating the work shop NUJ Vice President Prasanna Mohanty pointed out that journalists working in maoprone area of Odisha are facing serious security problem and their life is at risk. He demanded that journalists working in conflict zone should be properly insured and special identity card should be provided to them . Senior journalists Ramahari Mishra, Prasant Pattnaik , Sampad Mohapatra , Pratap Mohanty and Prafulla Das participated in the work shop and stressed on providing more facilities to the scribes working in Maoist area. Certificate was provided to participants at the end of the programmee.
